Get to Know Lyxzen, SuicideGirl turned Metal Ink Maiden

Posted in Maiden of the Month with tags , , on July 16, 2009 by metalinkshop

The competition among our July Maidens is heating up! Another guest entry, this time from top vixen Lyxzen!

*****************************************

Hihihi, my Metal Ink darlings! Maiden o’ the Month contender Lyxzen here, with a little guest-blog action for ya! For those of you who don’t know me, I’m also Lyxzen over at SuicideGirls.com, but my real name is Erica Danger! (Yep, legally!) I live in Portland, Oregon, where I work full-time as Desk Jockey for a very large corporation (can you believe I have my own cubicle?), part-time as photographer, & I volunteer at a suicide prevention hotline on the weekends! I’m a little busy most days, ha.

Some interesting things about me: I have two cats, Mouth & Banjo (named after Corey Feldman’s infamous character in The Goonies & Space Ghost’s pet sea monkey, respectively), my main mode of transportation is a Honda Metropolitan scooter (honk & wave if you see me tearin’ through the streets of my beloved P-Town!), & I am walking across the United States next spring! Also, I really like exclamation points. Really!!

Later this month (July 23rd-26th) you can find me in San Diego at the SuicideGirls table at ComicCon, & since I love meeting my interweb friends & fans, come out & say hi, let us scribble on your SG wares, or just give me a high-five!

I think that about covers it, eh? Don’t forget to cast your vote for July’s Maiden, especially if you were planning on voting for yours truly! 😉

Over & out, lovelies! Muah!
-Lyxzen

Metal Ink Satisfies That Kraven!

Posted in Maiden of the Month with tags , on July 15, 2009 by metalinkshop

We’re already halfway through the month?! Metal Ink needs you to go and vote for the July Maiden of the Month, now! Read below for Kraven making a 2nd guest appearance on Metal Ink Crew Musings! 🙂

*******************************************
Hey Lovlies~

Kraven here…I am hoping 2nd time is a charm for me here at Metal Ink as I am trying out for Maiden Of The Month once again. I am so happy to be a part of this site and community as any website that supports talented artists is held top-notch in my book. I am a creative and artistic person myself. I love to draw and paint, so I know how much time and dedication goes into the art pieces submitted on the Metal Ink website. I am such a loud colorful person, I am constantly changing my look as you can see in the pictures below…but something I take great pride in is my ink. I love getting new work done and thinking up my next piece. I love that this site is all about showing off some great ink work. After all…tattoos are an expression of oneself. It allows us to show others what is hidden inside us, to tell others how we are feeling and to show people what is important in our lives or who we are and what our individual personalities are like. I hope you all enjoy the site as much as I do. I hope that you will take time to vote for me to be your next Maiden of The Month and to represent you all. Take a look at some of my fave photos below and to see more check me out in the Maidens section on Metal Ink! Much Love and Keep Rockin!!!

XOXOXO Kraven XOXOXO

Maga guest blogging for Metal Ink Crew Musings! & watch her eat this…

Posted in Maiden of the Month with tags , , on July 11, 2009 by metalinkshop

Metal Ink can’t get enough of our July Maidens! Thanks Maga for the Friday pick-me-up! Vote for Maga on metalinkshop.com and buy some tees while you’re there!

*******************************************

Salut world! It’s me, Maga! Oh, you don’t know me? WELL! Lessee here, I am a 24 year-old college student working towards a degree in Animal Behavior (one more year, ’10 couldn’t come sooner!). Needless to say, I adore animals and I’m somewhat of a hippie on the inside, gamer-nerd on the outside. I am pretty open about the fact that I indulge in the finer things in life that include classic role-playing games (top five – Final Fantasy VII, Chrono Trigger, Star Ocean: The Second Story, SaGa Frontier, and Earthbound), MMOs (currently World of Warcrack), and trying out unusual ice creams (most recent find: lobster ice cream! Delish). I have a somewhat unhealthy obsession with the band Muse…and with singers that exercise countertenor. I love foreign music, foreign films, and foreign cuisines. I also love it when people are proud of their roots and culture. There aren’t too many things sadder than a people losing their customs and culture….I am ranting now. Enough about that! Did you know that you can see my fleshy parts at Godsgirls.com and Deviantnation.com? Well, did you?

Oh boy! It’s been pretty crazy around my parts (not THOSE parts), and things are just going to get crazier for Miss Maga. I will be flying to France on July 18 and I am a nervous/excited wreck about it. Hopefully I’ll have some way to keep track of what’s going on in the spectacular realm of Metal Ink! You all have been so kind and I am knee-knocking, bladder-clenching excited to see who will have won the title of Maiden of the Month when I get back! Hey? Don’t hesitate to vote for this girl, either.

FOR THE HORDE!

– Magatron

PS: The cake is a lie.

Dixy makes a guest appearance! <3 July Maidens <3

Posted in Maiden of the Month with tags on July 9, 2009 by metalinkshop

What luck! Another July Maiden guest blogging for Metal Ink Crew Musings! Check out the gorgeous girls in the running for the July Maiden of the Month contest! & while you’re there, rate new designs from our talented artists and check out the awesome new t-shirts we have for sale. Update your summer wardrobe for only $17-$19 per item!

*************************************************

Hello out there in the world of Musings, I’m Dixy and I just wanted to say hey and thanks for coming across and checking out my blog entry!

Most of my time is spent going to gigs, partying up, modeling and writing columns for www.rockradio.co.uk. I like to live life fast and hard and don’t really see the point in limiting myself! I do what I want when I want and often find myself on a bed of nails with the consequences (most times just a really bad hangover). I spend my life surrounded by a cloud of smoke, the buzz of headphones and friends, I never sit still for long–I love traveling up and down the country and all over the world in search of adventure!

Los Angeles is one of my all time favorite cities. My half sleeve was done on the Sunset Strip, and many interesting nights spent behind blinds in the hills give me a real passion for the true city of sin and the perfect place for the home of Metal Ink! The prints kick ass and have a real attitude…just like the models. So go on over and give me a vote for Maiden of the Month! There’s a lot more of me still for you to see…

Love Dixy

Hi sexy sirens and beautiful boys. It’s your dark goddess here to share what I love. First I am happy to show my pretty double DD’s here and on Metal Ink. Girls are so delicious…like a yummy cookie! I appreciate everyone who voted for me and who will in the future. I want to buy everyone a delicious treat…hahaha. Now I want to share my love of my wicked ways at my website www.serpentinesorceress.com. My art shares my soul with the world. I want to put everyone under my spell, bewitch you and make you unfathomably happy! I am a dark fairy from another land and where I live it gets pretty freaky and enchantingly ecstatic. If anyone wants to see me perform there are details at my site and many more that are not listed. I really want to be Maiden of the Month so Medusa can hypnotize the world on a Metal Ink tank top design! Medusa is the tattoo on my back.

Luv and sexy hot fun to everyone…LOTS of it…..maybe with me too. xoxoxoxox =).

“Fable” by Jason D’Aquino

Posted in Tattoo shops in New York with tags , on July 2, 2009 by metalinkshop

Following up from our interview with Jason D’Aquino, tattoo artist, miniaturist, and one of the newest members of the Metal Ink community.

In this entry, Jason D’Aquino explains his allegorical work, “Fable.” Enjoy!

"Fable" by Jason D'Aquino

“Fable”

This drawing was on the larger side. It was a commissioned piece for Chi Cheng, which I drew on the back of a child’s instructional paint by number. The image is fairly loaded with meaning and symbols, hence the title.

I guess we could start with the obvious question…what does the banner say? The translation of the Latin text inside the banner is, (top) “It doesn’t matter whether or not they are real” (bottom banner) “what matters is what they mean.” This inscription referred originally to mythological creatures…the sea serpents who dwelled in the uncharted oceans (terra incognita) , the unicorns, dragons, and beasts of the forests.

The creature in the center of the drawing is one such creature, the elusive “manticore” often rendered as a lion with a human head and the tail of a scorpion (sometimes the tail terminated in a fearsome ball of spikes, but I had to forgo that detail for the sake of the birdcage). The manticore’s grin exposes several rows of sharp, angry teeth. The skeleton astride the manticore’s back wears a pointed cap…a magician perhaps, or a dunce. Not much difference really between the highly enlightened and the innocent fool. Both have access to a certain undeniable truth. The lower portion of the skeleton’s body is meant to be a distraction from the game board. She is playing a one-sided game of chess. There are only half as many squares as a typical chessboard, and only white pieces are in play–a game you cannot win. Such is life. Death always wins in the end, so maybe it’s about how you play the game. The birdcage in the lion’s tail is holding a fish. This symbol for me is about religion. The fish in the gilded cage seems ludicrous, as of course, it would suffocate and die. A fish would be far more healthy and comfortable in the deep, dark and secretive embrace of the ocean’s depths, but if it’s down there, no one can see it… This is how most treat their religious convictions. They are merely for show, so that others can see them, but true convictions (in my opinion) should be kept secret, kept safe, deep inside.

The Bee is a symbol of hard work. It is drawn to the flower at the left side of the image. (Fans of the surrealists will recognize this particular flower as a sketch by Breton’s Nadja -“the lover’s flower.”) It sprouts from a pool of blood, pouring from the manticore’s pierced heart. The flower is not real–not in any tangible sense, just as love is not real or tangible. But to toil and spend your life and effort in pursuit of an ideal or an esthetic…is that not noble? Such is art, the only thing I have ever felt was truly worth my effort, and yet to most, a complete waste of time. To each his own, I suppose.
